Horizontally mounted motor assemblies are the most frequent plant configuration requiring shaft alignment. Most often, a motor is classed as a critical component in the production process and every single installation requires precision alignment for optimal performance.

Machine Train Motor Alignment - the Fixturlaser Machine Train XA

A machine train consists of several units with rotating shafts connected to one another. Aligning machine trains can be difficult, but with the Fixturlaser Machine Train XA Expansion Kit you will be surprised how convenient it can be.

The Fixturlaser Machine Train XA Expansion Kit is a software upgrade for the standard XA Motor Alignment system - no additonal fixtures or equipment is required to achieve alignment of machine trains.

The Machine Train Expansion Kit includes:

• 3-D Macromedia® Flash™ animations which will guide you through the alignment process
• Has a large color display which gives you a clear overview of the whole machine configuration
• Shows both the horizontal and vertical view
• Has a unique “minimal moves” function, which automatically helps you to determine the best reference machine in order to make as few and small changes as possible

The Fixturlaser Machine Train XA software guides the user throughout the measurement. After the alignment, the result screen showing the whole machine configuration can be transferred to external units via a USB stick.

Easy to Use

The Fixturlaser XA motor alignment process is straightforward: two laser units are attached to the shafts that require alignment, one either side of the coupling. Measurements are then recorded from 3 points, either by rotating the shaft through 30-40 degree segments, or by use of a special moveable fixture in cases where the shafts themselves will not rotate. The motort alignment system automatically measures the alignment of the two shafts, and displays to the user if the shaft is or isn’t aligned and indicating the precise amount of angular or offset misalignment.

Correcting misalignment is also a straightforward process. The Fixturlaser XA System has a 3D animated interface which shows users the exact amount of correction required to re-position the gearbox or motor so that perfect alignment through the centreline of the two shafts is achieved.

The Fixturlaser XA system has a ‘live’ screen so that any changes made to the position of the motor or pump are instantly displayed on the screen. The XA System indicates the thickness of shims that are required to be added or removed from under the front or rear feet of the unit. Arrows also indicate the amount of horizontal correction required to position the motor or pump correctly.

Graphical Display

The results from the entire measurement are shown directly on the display. The color codes indicate if there is a need for alignment. Green indicates within tolerance, orange near tolerance and red out of tolerance.
